I think the theme that starts to build up in chapters 1-6 is secrecy. Victor had a monster back in his apartment but he still invited his childhood friend Henry, in without telling him
anything about the the monster. He worked on Frankenstein for months and
didn't talk to anybody about his project. Even when he was horrified by
what he created he still didn't tell anyone about what he had done. He
also didn't tell Henry while showing him around the university and the
professors, that he felt tormented by going back and seeing the
chemicals and everything that reminded him of what he created.
